This weeks selection is led by Quora. The popular web-based question and answer service now has its very own official Android app, and its a good one, too. Weve also got a couple of impressive new beta apps: DayFrame is like a digital photo frame for your Android smartphone or tablet, while Torrent, the popular peer-to-peer filesharing program, unveiled its beta app. Check out these, and two other worthy selections, in this weeks top Android apps.
Quora (Free)
It took its time arriving on the platform, but Android users are grateful to see the official Quora app at last. Whats more, it manages to one-up the iOS version with its handy home screen widget, integration with Google search and the ability to embed images when youre asking the questions. Quora, for those who havent used it, is a crowdsourced question and answer service that relies on experts and thought leaders to give thorough answers to the questions people have.
DayFrame (Free)
Its still just a beta release, but DayFrame from cloud.tv certainly caught our eye this week, too. Its great for people who use their phones in a dock because it provides an up-to-date photostream from friends and family or interests gathered from your social networks. Its almost like one of those digital photo frames you can buy in stores, but far cleverer, as its all activated by voice commands. Its a cool app to try out and the developers suggest it could be great for repurposing aging Android tablets, too.
NFL Fantasy Cheat Sheet (Free)
The NFL season got underway on Wednesday night with more games on the way this weekend. While fantasy players have already drafted their picks, the NFL Fantasy Cheat Sheet app might still be worth having on hand. It features NFL content in addition to the latest player news, injury reports, depth charts, IDP, keepers, ADP, AAV and VBD. It also allows you to calculate rankings based on your leagues scoring system. You can configure starter position limits, view stats projections from AccuScore, track players, and much more.
Torrent Beta (Free)
Torrent Beta joins BitTorrents Torrent Remote app. Whereas Torrent Remote was useful for checking, stopping or starting your torrent downloads remotely, Torrent Beta is a fully-fledged torrent client you can use directly on your Android smartphone or tablet. Setting aside the legal implications peer-to-peer file sharing has encountered over the years (in other words, be careful what you download), the app is free with no speed or size limits, so make sure youre using Wi-Fi if you dont have an unlimited data plan.
RetailMeNot Coupons (Free)
RetailMeNot Coupons brings the popular discount website directly to your Android device complete with coupons for both online and local stores. Its easy to browse the companys top coupons, see the most popular stores, view coupons by category or visit that days hot deals. Once you find the coupon you want, its simple to apply it online, or you can save it for later use. Coupons for regular brick-and-mortar stores can be redeemed directly from your phone and like its website, the RetailMeNot app features community-powered success ratings for its coupons.
