Here are three great Android apps to enjoy. NFL Game Rewind arrives ready for football season, and providing you have a subscription, lets you watch full replays of every game on your tablet. Then, theres TabletSMS by DeskSMS, a very useful app if you want to send SMS via your Android tab instead of always turning to your smartphone. Last, but not least, weve got a nice update to the official White House app with a smart redesign and some new features.
NFL Game Rewind (Free, requires subscription)
Whats it about? Just in time for football season, this app lets fans watch full replays of NFL games on their Android tablets.
Whats cool? Dont get too excited about the free tag if you dont have a Game Rewind subscription, this app wont be much fun. However, if you do (and youre in the USA), you can watch full replays of 2012 NFL games once theyre through. View the games from 22 different exclusive angles, or just go for a condensed 30-minute version. You can even choose your own instant replays of exciting moments and watch them over and over again.
Who is it for? Naturally, paid-up Game Rewind subscribers are going to get the biggest kick (sorry) out of this one. But for those into deep football analysis, NFL Game Rewind has a few outstanding features like play-by-play analysis of every game and full stats for all completed games.
Whats it like? NFL 12 offers news, scores and stats, while NFL.com Fantasy Football 2012 caters for the Android-sporting fantasy enthusiast. DirecTV have their Sunday Ticket apps for both smartphone and tablet which stream live games, but youll need to be a paid-up subscriber to use them.
TabletSMS by DeskSMS (Free)
Whats it about? This clever app lets you send SMS directly from your tablet using your existing phone number.
Whats cool? Unlike other apps, TabletSMS by DeskSMS doesnt even require you to be on the same Wi-Fi network or connected via Bluetooth to work. All you need is this app on your tablet and DeskSMS on your smartphone. It works by forwarding your SMS and MMS from one device to the other.
Whos it for? If you find yourself using your tablet pretty much all the time, switching to your smartphone each time you need to send an SMS can get tiresome, so TabletSMS by DeskSMS solves that problem. Its worth noting that though the apps are free, the service itself costs a mere $5/year.
Whats it like? Clockworkmod also made DeskSMS which lets you text from your phone number via your desktop-based Gmail, Gtalk or web browser. Youll need this app on your phone for TabletSMS to work on your tablet!
White House update (Free)
Whats it about? The official White House app got a big version 2.0 update just in time for the Democratic Convention and impending presidential election.
Whats cool? A nice, fresh redesign is not the only advantage of the Android app. There are also live video streams of White House events (if youre running 3.1 Honeycomb or higher), support for most Android tablet devices, better tools to search WhiteHouse.gov and instant notifications for breaking news.
Whos it for? Political news junkies who want to find out what the Commander in Chief is up to on a daily basis will appreciate the revamped White House app. Its improved search capabilities are useful, too. Its especially handy for the lowdown on speeches.
Whats it like? While other apps cover the latest political news, commentary and analysis, the official White House app definitely gives a more intimate look at the daily work going on at the Oval Office. POLITICO remains a great app for politics junkies. Theres also the unofficial Whitehouse.gov app in case the offical line has compatibility issues for you.
