Many video games make you feel as powerful as God, but very few actually put you in his all-powerful vengeful shoes. Babel Rising 3D! does just that, asking you to bring your wrath upon the Babylonians as they disobey you and construct the Tower of Babel. You'll use various powers themed after the four fictional elements, from earthquakes and fire-walls to freezing temperatures, lighting, and tornadoes. It's a very creative game, but it bolsters a brutal in-app purchase pushing economy and is rife with bugs and glitches.
The gameplay is simple enough. You take two elements into battle with you, switching between them as each attack recharges. Eventually, you'll charge up that element's super attack, such as a giant rolling boulder or a meteor shower. Your objectives range from killing a certain number or workers, surviving a number of waves, and so on. You'll also have to deal with different units, such as priests that shield workers from certain attacks. The touch controls can be iffy at times with the camera flying off the handle, but they mostly work fine. That is, when the game is working.
Sometimes the power selection tabs will just disappear. Sometimes the targeting messes up, and you end up unable to cast any powers on the actual spiral path of the tower. Sometimes the app crashes. What's more, you'll earn money as you play, and that money is used to upgrade your powers. From chapter two and onwards, it's also used to unlock levels, and it takes forever to save up a decent amount of coins. On top of all this, there is a paid version of the game for five dollars, but it seems to be the exact same game as this free version. You still have to pay in-game money to progress on a paid app. I really like the ideas at work here, but they just really dropped the ball with several aspects. It's still worth checking out, but you probably won't be playing for long.
